Authorities in Cherokee County are hoping someone knows where Herbert Potts is.

The sheriff's office says Potts, 48, was reported missing on Sunday, May 13, 2012, but rumors according to Undersheriff Jason Chennault are spreading that Potts was shot and killed in March and buried near Hulbert.

Chennault says Potts has an extensive criminal history dating back to 1982 and has served time for burglary, rape and drug charges.

He says the sheriff's office is getting conflicting reports on whether Potts is alive or dead.

Family members think Potts is alive, but a woman, who Chennault declined to name, says she shot and killed Potts, then buried him.

That woman has not been arrested, because at this point, Chennault says they have nothing to hold her on.

Potts is a white male, 5-feet-6, 225 pounds with red hair and blue eyes.

Anybody with information regarding the whereabouts of POTTS can call the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office at (918) 456-2583 and ask for Undersheriff Jason Chennault, Sgt. Casey Baker or Investigator James Brown.
