A local soldier is back on the homefront, but not without a few surprises up his sleeve.
Specialist Steven Busby and his aunt have been working overtime for the past two months to surprise his family.
But it wasn't just his family that was in for a surprise.
It was a top-secret operation. It all began Thursday night with a hug and a kiss as Busby's girlfriend greeted him at the airport.
Then it ended on one knee.
"Will you marry me?"
"Yes," said Kammy Simpson.
And he said, "I'm not finished yet."
"Hopefully this doesn't air, because my parents don't know I'm home yet," Busby said.
Now, fast forward to Saturday afternoon.
"I think somebody ordered a special delivery," Busby said as he surprised his family.
But wait. There's more. Just to be safe... and sure she hadn't changed her mind.
"Will you marry me?"
Yes again. Whew.
Army Specialist Steven Busby is home from Korea, he hadn't seen his family in a year.
Steven is continuing a family legacy. His grandfather, his hero, Master Sergeant Terry Busby, also served in Korea. And in uniform, some might even mistake the two.
"I thought I'd seen my husband again and I thought, no this is coming true," his grandmother Janie Busby said.
Steven's grandpa passed away nearly three years ago, and ever since, he has been following closely in his footsteps.
"I haven't done him proud yet, because I haven't reached Sergeant First Class," Busby said.
But he's well on his way.
"You can't find a better job, protecting those that you love. I love doing that," Busby said.
A patriotic duty, and we can't thank you enough.
