TULSA, Oklahoma – A huge finish gave life to what started out as a rough Easter doubleheader for the Golden Eagles against Oakland on Sunday.
After dropping the first game of the day 4-1, Cam Schiller came through with a game-winning grand slam to finish off the second game 8-6.
A combination of solid hitting from the Golden Grizzlies and a number of mistakes from the Golden Eagles resulted in the ORU loss in the first game.
Oral Roberts left 10 players on base and had three errors to seal their fate.
But the second game was a bit more eventful and also more enjoyable for ORU fans.
Things started off with a bang for the Golden Eagles as back-to-back home runs from Jose Trevino and Jared Schlehuber put their team up 3-0 in the first.
But a pair of RBIs each from Oakland's John Estes and Tim Ryan reversed the fortunes and gave their team the 4-3 lead.
Nate Goro of ORU responded with a game-tying RBI double in the fourth to knot the game at four runs apiece.
But Schiller was the man of the hour in the end, as his grand slam gave the Golden Eagles their 15th win of the year (15-16, 2-2 Summit).
Oakland continued to struggle in its season, moving to 6-23 overall and 2-2 Summit League.
Dan Martony got the win for Oral Roberts on the mound with his 1.1 innings of relief.
The Golden Eagles will take on Southern Utah for a four-game series in Cedar City beginning Thursday at 3 p.m.
