The Tulsa Golden Hurricane held off a late push from SMU and closed out the regular season out on a positive note, knocking off the Mustangs 61-57 Thursday, heading into this weekend's Summit League tournament.
Tulsa led 56-47 with just 41 seconds left to play, but the Mustangs snapped off back-to-back three-point plays to cut the deficit to 56-53 just 11 seconds later. Taleya Mayberry hit back-to-back free throws to push the lead back to five points with 27 seconds left to play.
The Golden Hurricane held a 60-54 lead with just eight seconds left to play, but the Mustangs wouldn't go away and Alisha Filmore knocked down a three-pointer with three seconds left to make it a one-point lead yet again.
SMU intentionally fouled Taylor Hooker with two seconds left to extend the game, but Taylor Hooker hit the second of her two tries to end the game.
Mayberry led the Golden Hurricane with a game-high 19 points, grabbing five rebounds and dishing out five assists, with Hooker adding in 14 points and Chanice Scott chipping in 12 points in the win.
Filmore set the pace for the SMU, scoring 14 points, but no other player scored more than eight points in the loss.
Tulsa will take nearly a week off to prepare for the Conference USA tournament, with the tournament opening Wednesday in Memphis, Tenn.
