The City of Bixby has ended its amnesty period that began February 6, 2012, and collected more than $8,000.

During the two week program, citizens with outstanding warrants or unpaid fines were encouraged to contact the city clerk to make arraignments without penalties.

The city collected $8,631, and forgave $5,396 of the $641,316 in outstanding fines due. The city was able to clear only about 2 percent of total fines and warrants issued.

Now that the program has ended, those with outstanding warrants will be subject to arrest and if a fine is owed, they will be turned over to a collection agency.

This was the first time the city has conducted an amnesty program.
