A Tulsa elementary school student's labor of love was inspired by a classmate's special heart.
Diego is a second grader at Eisenhower International School. He has a rare heart condition, so raising money for the annual Jump Rope Heart Event has extra meaning for him.
Diego made a video asking people to give what they could.
"I told them to raise money so I can help the people that had different heart conditions than other people like me," Diego said.
A fellow second grader heard Diego's speech and decided she wanted to help. Olivia cut dozens of paper hearts and sold them before and after class to help raise money for her friend.
Diego's mom couldn't be more proud.
"I think it is a true sign of love and affection, which is what Valentine's Day is all about," said Leslie Segovia, Diego's mom.
Olivia made more than $200. Diego's speech netted him $1,500.
They hope Thursday's Jump Rope Heart event will help them beat the old fundraising record of $6,000.
