A wintry mix is in the forecast for the beginning of the work week in Green Country, according to News On 6 meteorologist Dick Faurot.

Until that time, we can expect bitterly cold temperatures.

Current data suggests that snow will start around midnight Sunday night. As temperatures warm Monday, there will be a "gradual transition to a more mixed bag of sleet, rain or perhaps even some freezing rain during the day Monday," Faurot said in his weather blog.

"Fortunately, amounts are not expected to be very great," he said.

If only snow falls, we're likely to get 2 to 4 inches, Faurot said.

"That is not likely to happen though as there should be a mix of precipitation types," he said. "Total liquid equivalent now looks to be on the order of about ¼ inch or so.

"Obviously, if that were to be all ice, then we would have some real problems, but that does not appear likely either."

The rest of the week is expected to have milder weather with a chance of rain on Wednesday.
