It was a poor shooting night all-around between Tulsa and UAB, but the Blazers did enough to top Tulsa 47-40, netting the Golden Hurricane its second consecutive loss.

Tulsa took a 5-2 lead in the first two minutes of the game, aided by a game-opening three-point play from Taleya Mayberry. The Blazers outscored the Golden Hurricane 16-3 over the next 14 minutes, taking an 18-8 lead with less than five minutes to play in the first half.

Tulsa struck back, scoring eight unanswered points over a four-minute span to cut the lead to just two points with 58 seconds left to play. Meagan Brown hit a buzzer-beater for the Blazers to give them a 20-16 lead at halftime.

That lead essentially held through the first 12 minutes of the second half, with UAB leading 29-26 at the 8:41 mark. However, the Blazers rattled off 11 unanswered points, eight coming from Karisma Chapman, to take a 40-26 lead with four minutes left to play.

The Golden Hurricane responded with a 14-2 run, seven coming from Loren McDaniel, to cut the lead to two points with just 37 seconds left to play. The game turned into a free throw contest at that point, and UAB converted on five of their six attempts to close the game out.

McDaniel was the leading scorer for the Golden Hurricane, playing all 20 minutes and turning in 12 points and six assists. She was the only Tulsa player to turn in a double-digit performance in the loss.

Chapman set the pace for the Blazers with 12 points and seven rebounds, while Amber Jones turned in 11 points, six boards and six assists in the win.

Tulsa will try to avoid a three-game losing streak on the road at 2 p.m. Sunday against the SMU Mustangs.
