TULSA, Oklahoma – McLain High School coach Dan Bitson is leaving the school and will become the running backs coach for the University of Tulsa, TU announced on Friday.
Bitson was a former All-American in his playing days for the Golden Hurricane, and has spent the past three years as McLain's coach.
He coaches the receivers at Tulsa in 2001 and 2002 and has 16 years of collegiate experience.
TU coach Bill Blankenship said he has been impressed with the job Bitson has done at McLain.
"He brings a lot of credibility as an All-American at The University of Tulsa, a guy that's a Tulsan and who made his mark at TU," Blankenship said. "I think Dan will do a great job for us in recruiting. He's a very well-respected coach and he'll be an excellent fit to our staff."
Bitson was a two-time second-team All-America selection for the Hurricane in 1988 and 1989.
He ended his college playing career second all-time at Tulsa with 3,330 yards and 29 touchdown receptions. He was also inducted into the University of Tulsa Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007.
