As high school teams hit the hardwood, basketball coaches at Cascia Hall are using sports to help people in need.
Eight teams from area Catholic schools played in the first "Hoops for Hope" tournament.
They collected donations of food, clothing, baby supplies and more than $3,000 in cash.
Head Basketball Coach Brian Rahilly of Cascia Hall says basketball and a charity benefit are a winning combination.
"If we can serve and have something like this and play some basketball, and have a little glory on the basketball court too, well, then that's just icing on the cake," he said.
The schools plan to continue the new tradition next year.
