INDIANAPOLIS – Nothing about ORU's bizarre 72-48 loss to the IUPUI Jaguars on Saturday seemed normal.
For starters, Oral Roberts is one of the top teams in the conference and IUPUI traditionally one of the worst.
ORU had won four straight in the two teams' series and the Jaguars hadn't beaten a Division I opponent since Nov. 30 of 2011.
The 24-point loss was the Golden Eagles' second-biggest defeat of the season, trailing only a 65-37 loss at Arkansas.
And Kevi Luper, who easily leads the team in scoring at 23.1 per game, managed just six points on 2-of-12 shooting.
The game was not pretty right from the start for the Golden Eagles, who missed their first six shots and fell behind 9-0 just four minutes in.
ORU tried to chip away at the lead, but the Jaguars were relentless in the first half, finishing it out with a 10-0 run to lead 31-16 at halftime.
IUPUI first got the lead past 20 when a 3-pointer from Katie Comello made it 50-30. Comello led all scorers in the game with 28 points and was 6-for-11 from 3-point range.
Oral Roberts shot 31 percent in the game and got a small taste of its own medicine being forced into 16 turnovers. The Jaguars also outrebounded the Golden Eagles 47-34 in the game.
Georgia Jones led the Golden Eagles with 16 points and Jordan Pyle added a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.
ORU will look to bounce back on Monday evening, when it will take on Western Illinois on the road. Tip time is set for 7 p.m.
