Green Country generosity is helping spread holiday cheer this year.
A secret Santa dropped off a $10,000 check at a Tulsa Kmart that will allow dozens of families to take home their Christmas gifts, for just a penny.
The tough economy has many leaning on layaway. Kmart is one of the few stores that offers the program which lets people buy items and pay for them over a few weeks.
A woman brought a $10,000 check into an east Tulsa store and told manager Glen Broaddus she wanted to pay off the bills for people with toys on their layaway lists.
"Everybody in the store has goose bumps from it. It's been great. It rejuvenated my Christmas spirit," said Glen Broaddus, Kmart Store Manager.
Broaddus says the donation took care of 86 customers.
"I came to pick up my layaway and they say I owed one penny. One penny!" exclaimed Kmart customer Carol Ed.
"The lady said just give me a penny and I was like ‘what?' And she said 'yeah, a secret Santa.' I was very happy, had to give her a hug," said customer Brandice McConnell.
The donations are happening all over the country. Giving hope from coast to coast.
Total strangers simply wanting to spread the holiday cheer to make sure families have a special Christmas.
The store manager says the woman does want to remain anonymous, but she is from the Tulsa area.
