The Red Cross Club at Cooper Elementary is starting a program to give kids in Red Cross shelters something to do.

To kick it off, they got a firsthand look at what a Red Cross shelter is and what volunteers do there. They took at a look at the supplies given to families and even tried out the cots.

"It's not very comfortable, but it would do for now after the disaster because I don't want to sleep on the hard floor if I come," said 5th grader Rebecca Hale.

The Red Cross Club is a student council learning service project. Junior Achievement donated bags for them to fill and now the students are looking for things like reading and math items, as well as pencils, crayons and pencil sharpeners to put in them.
