SCHIDLER, Oklahoma -- By now, you may be tired of eating leftover turkey. So it may be time to get back to some good old Oklahoma favorites.
When traveling the back roads of Oklahoma, lots of folks look for a hole in the wall place to eat.
In Shidler, population of about 400 and the west entrance to the tallgrass prairie, you'll find one. This hole in the wall place is actually called the Hole in the Wall Cafe.
Since 2003, Linn Lackey and her husband Brian have been serving up down home comfort food in downtown Shidler. The secret to their success is simple.
"Good home cooking at down-home prices, that's basically it," said Brian Lackey, cafe owner.
Nothing is pre made, pre fab, or pretentious about the Hole in the Wall. And it's not just the food, but the friendliness and familiarity too that bring people back.
"She kind of spoils you on fixing the things that you like, the way that you want it to be fixed," said customer Marlene Kleinmann.
Whether it's hand breaded, or cut fresh daily, you can get it your way at a place where picking a favorite on the menu may be tough.
"It's hard to choose? It's hard to choose. It really is," Brian Lackey said.
Hard to choose, but easy to find good cooking and conversation with big time portions and without big city prices.
"If you left hungry, then you didn't finish your plate," Linn said.
Folks leave full and glad they took time to discover and enjoy a little hole in the wall place in Shidler, Oklahoma.
"It's worth the drive. Come on down and we'll take care of you," Linn said.
The Hole in the Wall Cafe is open Tuesday through Sunday from 6:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Shidler is Northwest of Pawhuska on Highway 11.
