A Fort Gibson woman is dead after losing control of her car on a curve Saturday evening in Cherokee County. Troopers say alcohol was involved in the crash.
Teri Cockle was southbound on State Highway 80 just south of State Highway 251A when her 1999 Toyota went left of center, according to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The driver overcorrected, causing the Toyota to go into a 180 degree spin. It went off the roadway to the right and flipped before striking a tree.
Cockle, 37, was thrown several feet from the wreck. She was taken by medical helicopter to a Tulsa hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Trooper Josh Lawson reports that the driver was not wearing a seat belt, and that the wreck was caused by driving under the influence of alcohol.
