UNDATED -- A Sapulpa family has learned their soldier, Staff Sergeant Kirk Owen, was killed his unit ran over an IED in Afghanistan.
He was on his second deployment there and was a scout with Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 279th Infantry. Staff Sergeant Owen served as an assistant chaplain.
Owen was 37.
In a news release from the family, they say thanks in advance for your prayers as they "take some time to grieve over their incredible husband, dad, son, and brother."
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be given to either Blue Star Moms or the youth ministry of First Baptist Church of Sapulpa.
