OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 1 Douglass was hot from the opening tip and held a comfortable lead for most of the game Friday, topping the Vinita Hornets 87-57 to advance to the Class 4A Final.
The Trojans knocked down four 3-pointers to open the game and take a 12-5 advantage in the opening minutes of the game, a lead that would expand to 24-7. Senior Dorrian Williams scored 13, 12 coming from three-point range.
Douglass would finish the quarter leading 24-12 and opened the second quarter on a 9-2 run to take a 33-14 with four minutes left in the half.
Vinita scored back-to-back baskets to cut the lead to 33-19, but Douglass closed the half on a 7-2 run, capped off by an alley-oop from Williams to Ramond Jenkins.
The third quarter proved to be more of the same for the Trojans, outscoring Vinita 21-12 in the quarter to take a commanding 61-32 lead into the fourth.
Douglass opened the fourth quarter with a four-point play from senior Dominique Manuel, tacking on five more to take a 70-36 lead just three minutes into the quarter.
Vinita junior Jake Bullard put up a valiant effort to close the game, scoring seven in the final eight minutes of the contest, but it was too little, too late.
Williams and sophomore Stephen Clark finished tied with a game-high 23 points in the contest for Douglass, accounting for most of the Trojans offense for the entire game.
Bullard, who left the game with 3:13 to play, lead the charge for Vinita with 19 points, while junior Nathan Reed added 11 points.
The Trojans will now take on Bridge Creek, along with Gonzaga signee Ryan Spangler, at 5:45 p.m. Saturday.
