With a nearly record-setting snow storm and another storm on the way, the winter weather is causing headaches for school districts around the state.

Snow Impacting Schools and Athletics around the State

MUSTANG, Oklahoma -- The Mustang High School gym looked more like a Friday night on Monday.

The basketball teams were making up a game from last week that was canceled because of the snow.

“We’ve got four games this week, it’s really hard to schedule all that, you know?” Kate Haydon said, a parent who was watching her daughter play.

Athletics are just one of a long list of headaches caused by the recent Blizzard.

“First thing this morning, I was on the phone with other A.D.’s, we lost wrestling matches, basketball games, so it’s been very difficult,” Mustang Athletic Director Chuck Bailey said.

State Superintendent Janet Barresi says her office has also had to alter the testing windows for state mandated tests.

“We have a writing test coming up for 8th graders and that is now being moved back,” said Barresi. “The end of the year instruction examinations: their windows are being changed and altered to better accommodate the lost time for instruction.”

This is taking place as individual schools are still trying to figure out how to make up for those missed days, knowing more snow is on the way.

To make things even more difficult, basketball regional tournaments start in a couple weeks so teams have a very narrow window to make up their schedules. If they can't get them in some games may have to be canceled.
