TULSA, Oklahoma – Kingfisher quarterback Derek Patterson has accepted a scholarship offer to play football at the University of Tulsa.

Patterson said he found out officially about his offer in a sit-down meeting with TU coach Bill Blankenship on Saturday.

“We just talked about what position I could play and stuff like that,” Patterson said. “He just recruited me as an athlete so I could play on defense, offense, quarterback, receiver or special teams.

“He just wanted me to feel comfortable, wherever I felt most comfortable at.”

Patterson said he also had offers from Southern Nazarene, Northwestern Oklahoma State and Southwestern Oklahoma State, but said he had grown up around the TU program, was very familiar with it and was hoping for an offer.

Though he said he was relieved to finally get the offer, the week leading up to it had him a bit on edge.

“Earlier this week I talked to (Kingfisher coach Jeff) Myers and he said they (Tulsa) were going to get in touch with me,” Patterson said. “That was on Monday and they didn’t call until Thursday so I was getting kind of worried a little bit, but Coach Myers just told me they were interested in me.”

Patterson said the prospect of signing day is a lot more comfortable now that he is a part of the Golden Hurricane program.

“It’s very relieving I guess you could say,” he said. “Not having to stress about wondering where I’m going to go now or anything like that.”
