TULSA, Okla. – As signing day approaches and anxiety heightens for many recruits, three Tulsa Union players are slightly more relaxed.
Union’s Kale Pearson, Blake Jones and Brentom Todd all gave commitments and said they plan on honoring those commitments when signing day rolls around.
Pearson, a 5-10 athlete, played quarterback at Union and gave a verbal commitment to play football at Air Force. He averaged 247 yards per game for the Redskins and also received recruiting interest from the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.
Pearson has ties with Tulsa – he played under TU coach Bill Blankenship’s son, Josh, when Josh was an assistant at Union from 2007-10. But Pearson said he is comfortable with his current commitment heading into signing day.
“I know my situation isn’t like a lot of other people,” he said. “A lot of people right now, more and more schools are contacting them and it’s getting kind of stressful. But with me locked into the Air Force right now, it’s going smooth.”
Blake Jones played mainly at the offensive tackle position for Tulsa Union but committed to Colorado State as a tight end back in August of 2010. A standout student in the classroom as well, he received interest from Duke and Missouri but said he is sticking to Colorado State as signing day approaches.
“I feel like everything is going good,” Jones said. “Signing day is coming up and I feel like I’ve got my mind set.”
Brentom Todd, a 6-3, 210-pound defensive end gave a commitment last month to play football for the University of Tulsa, which is going through major turnover in its coaching staff.
TU coach Todd Graham left for Pitt and took three assistants with him, but Todd said new TU coach Bill Blankenship is one of the first coaches who recruited him.
“I feel at peace about it, and that’s why I chose Tulsa,” Todd said. “I’m solid as solid can be.”
