BERRYHILL, Oklahoma – With everything on the line, Berryhill gave it everything they had. The Chiefs overcame a terrible first quarter to beat the Kellyville Ponies 41-19 in a 3A District 5 elimination game. Berryhill makes the playoffs for the third time in the last four seasons.
The first quarter wasn’t pretty for either team. Kellyville and Berryhill combined for four punts and four turnovers. One of those turnovers was a Ponies interception that Aaron Dolan returned for the Chiefs’ first score of the night.
In the second quarter, both teams started to hit their stride. After a 49-yard touchdown pass from Corey Wheeler to Johnathon Buckley gave Kellyville a one-point lead, Berryhill responded. They drove down the field and scored on a 17-yard Adam Dolan touchdown run to retake the lead, 12-7.
Kellyville would punch in a short touchdown run before the half to take a 13-12 lead, but couldn’t hold the lead. Berryhill poured on the points in the second half and pulled away for the win. The Chiefs improved their home record to 3-2 this season.
Berryhill earned the fourth and final seed in 3A District 5. They will visit Metro Christian for round one of the playoffs.
Kellyville’s season ends with a 3-7 overall record. They dropped four of their final five games.
