SPERRY, Oklahoma – Sperry ran its record to 5-0 by turning a three-point halftime lead into a 44-22 victory over Nowata on Friday night.
After Nowata was forced to punt on its first possession, the Pirates drew first blood. With the ball near midfield, Aaron Beats reached the second level and outran the Ironmen defense for a score.
Nowata responded on its next possession by going to the air. Trenton Glasscock completed passes to several different receivers, including a key first down pass to Jeremy Hensley on 4th and 8. A few plays later, Glasscock avoided pressure and found Hensley in the front corner of the endzone for the tying score.
The Ironmen kept it close and went into the half down 17-14. However, a heavy dose of Beats and Bennie Driver allowed the Pirates to pull away.
Sperry takes on Kellyville next week, while Nowata hosts Dewey.
