NOBLE, Oklahoma -- The Noble High School football team was told Friday morning that the evening's football game against Chickasha had been canceled. Instead, the team held scrimmage practice in the afternoon.
The decision came Friday after Chickasha football player Kody Turner passed away. Turner had passed out at practice on Tuesday. He died at OU's Childrens Hospital early Friday morning. Noble High players say they practiced with heavy hearts and with Turner's family in their thoughts.
"When the principal told us we wouldn't be playing, we were disappointed. We understand though," said team captain Trey Jones. "It just goes to show football isn't everything. That's what our principal said this morning."
News that the 16 year old had passed away hit close to home for Noble Principal Frank Soloman.
"Honestly, it scares you. The hardest thing in life is to lose a child. My wife and I know what it's like," Soloman said. "We are praying for the Turner family and the Chickasha community."
Several area churches contacted Noble to offer a prayer service at Friday's practice, but there were schedule conflicts. Plans to do so are in the works for next week.
