OKLAHOMA CITY -- In the 2010 Battle of the Bishops, the Bishop McGuinness Irish came from behind to top the Bishop Kelley Comets 14-7 Friday and claim the shillelagh for the first time in three years.
The Comets (0-2) led the entire first half and nearly all of the third quarter, but the Irish (2-0) offense came alive late.
With 15 seconds left in the third quarter, senior running back LaRone Richardson took a run 29 yards for a score to tie the game at 7-7. The Irish then orchestrated a last-minute drive capped off by a 15-yard pass from Camden Tharp to Nick Callaway to take a 14-7 lead with 17 seconds left.
The Irish don’t have much time to enjoy the victory; they face the talented Millwood Falcons (2-0) on the road next Friday, while Bishop Kelley will try to notch their first win in Coweta against the Tigers (1-1).
