COLLINSVILLE, Oklahoma – There are not many skill players returning for Collinsville in 2010. One of the guys that Cardinals fans will recognize is senior quarterback Shane Douglass.

The dual-threat option for the Cardinals will have to alter his game for the 5A level. Collinsville makes the jump to a new class this season after spending years in 4A.

“I'm excited to just experience it, but I'm also nervous to see how it turns out,” said Douglass.

The quarterback says he’s better throwing on the run that he is sitting in the pocket. His offensive line is solid and should give him plenty of time to break out and make plays this season.

“They're huge, they're strong, they're quick,” he smiled. “They've been working hard in the weight room. They're everything.”

He says he’s best friends with his lineman and gets along with them on and off the field.

“You don't want to tick them off because they might miss a block every once in awhile and you've got a linebacker coming up at you,” he joked.

His teammates have high expectations for their offensive leader. Last season Douglass threw for 990 yards and six touchdowns. His teammates expect more in 2010.

“I think he can go for about 1,500 or 2,000 yards this year,” said senior running back Tyler Lowe. “I think we are going to be a lot more explosive.”

The team’s biggest obstacle will be its daunting district schedule, but Douglass can’t wait for the challenge.

“I hope they overlook us, so it will be a bigger surprise when we win,” he said.
