SHAWNEE, Oklahoma -- Top-seeded Weatherford shut out Newcastle 7-0 in the 4A Baseball Quarterfinals. Oklahoma signee Dillon Overton pitched a no hitter through five innings while striking out ten. He fanned seven straight including striking out the side in the second and third innings.
Jake Barrios' RBI single in bottom of first gave Weatherford a 1-0 lead. Barrios hit another RBI double in the top of the third to give Weatherford a 2-0 lead.
Overton helped out his cause, hitting a sac-fly to deep right that scored Barrios to give Weatherford the 3-0 advantage.
Nate Hunt's RBI single in the top of the fourth gave Weatherford a 4-0 lead. The Eagles would add another run in the top of the sixth and a couple of insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
Barrios would come in to close things out for the Eagles in the sixth keeping the no-hitter alive through six.
But in the bottom of the seventh Newcastle's Shea Longman broke up the no hitter with a single but Weatherford would end the game with a double play.
The Eagles pitching allowed just one hit on the game and Weatherford wins 7-0.
