TULSA, Oklahoma – It took overtime, but the Claremore Zebras outlasted El Reno 74-66 to advance to the 5A state semifinals. The Zebras trailed most of the game but found a way to crack the final four.
The Indians led 28-27 at halftime thanks to a big opening effort from Chris Mustain. The senior scored from the perimeter and slashed inside en route to a game-high 30 points.
Dakota Caudill brought the Zebras back in the second half. He scored 21 points for Claremore. The Zebras hit two clutch free throws with 17 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to take a one point lead. El Reno knocked down one free throw to send the game to overtime.
Caudill hit the first two shots of the extra period before fouling out. Alex Miller picked up the slack with 19 points for the Zebras. Claremore made 11-of-15 free throws in overtime to seal the win.
The Zebras will play the winner of Memorial and MacArthur’s game at 4:30 p.m.
