OKLAHOMA CITY – The Cyril Lady Pirates started the game on a 12-3 run and never looked back Friday, beating Forgan 43-26 and advancing to the Class B finals.
After Cyril’s initial spurt, neither team could get much done offensively. The Pirates’ superior height prevented Forgan from getting many open looks, and Cyril frequently held the ball for 30 or more seconds on the offensive end to constantly drain time off the clock.
Forgan went on a few short runs in the second half, but never really drew within striking distance.
Shelbie Loughlin led Cyril’s charge as the game began, scoring 10 points in the first quarter. Forgan then shut Loughlin out in the second and third quarters before she reemerged in the fourth and scored another seven to finish with a game-high 17.
Kenzi Taylor led Forgan with 14 points and Jaci McGill scored 11, but the Lady Bulldogs got only one point from the rest of their roster.
Cyril will move on to face Broynton-Moton in the finals Saturday. Broynton defeated Frontier 81-64 Friday.
This is the second consecutive season that Cyril has made it to the state finals. Last year, the Pirates fell to Varnum 56-36 in the championship game.
