EDMOND, Oklahoma -- The Edmond North Huskies advance to the area tournament and are just one win away from advancing to the state tournament thanks to a 60-41 win over defending state champs Del City.
"It's huge for us. I mean a big signature win over defending state champions," Edmond North Head Coach Kevin Korstjens said. "If you saw them how hard they fight and they never quit, just keep clawing and scratching, I just really felt like our girls played tough and determined from the beginning to the end."
Elizabeth Donohoe led the Huskies with 20 points and Tanita Deberry added 14. Rukiya Turner led the Eagles with 12.
The Huskies will now face rivals Edmond Santa Fe on Thursday, March 4th, with a time and place to be determined. Santa Fe is a 61-51 winner over Lawton High. Two of the Huskies' three losses have come from the Wolves. The third meeting, however, is for a berth in the state tournament.
"They're really athletic and they are gonna play hard and they are gonna want it too. No one is gonna let us walk into the state tournament so it's going to be another battle. It's gonna be a fight so we are gonna get our gloves on and get ready," Korstjens said.
