KINGFISHER, Oklahoma – For the fourth consecutive year, Kingfisher worked its way to the 2A semifinals. The Yellowjackets (11-2) will meet the Millwood Falcons (11-2) this weekend. The Yellowjackets won a Gold Ball in 2003 and have been a threat to win another one ever since.
“The kids kind of know what’s expected of them, and it’s kind of become a tradition around here,” coach Jeff Myers said.
The Yellowjackets are led by quarterback Derek Patterson. His play will be crucial if the Yellowjackets want to come up with a victory against the Falcons. The senior was unable to play in the team’s two losses this season.
“He’s the cog; he makes our offense go,” Myers said.
On defense, Jordan Woods is a ball-hawk for the Yellowjackets. He leads the team with 10 interceptions, while linebacker Rhett Blundell could have more than 200 tackles this season with a strong performance against Millwood.
Kingfisher’s matchup with Millwood is set for 7:30 this Saturday night at Yukon High School. The Millwood-Kingfisher winner will play the Pawhuska-Lincoln Christian winner next week for the 2A Gold Ball.
