CHECOTAH, Oklahoma – The Checotah Wildcats (6-0, 3-0) ran wild all night on the Kellyville Ponies’ (0-6, 0-3) defense. Junior quarterback Mike Easley led his team up and down the field in a 54-6 rout Friday night.
Easley wasn’t alone. In the first quarter, Easley hit Rickey Newell over the middle and the sophomore wide receiver dashed his way down near the Ponies’ goal line. Two plays later, senior running back Chase Isaac got the Wildcats on the scoreboard with a short touchdown run to put Checotah up 6-0.
Chris Carr, the Wildcats’ talented running back, was slowed in the first half against Kellyville. Carr went down awkwardly in the first quarter and came out of the game limping. The senior looked to be favoring his right ankle but returned to the game after sitting out a few plays.
The Wildcats got great defense again this week. Chase Butler picked up an interception in the first quarter that led to a Wildcats score.
Kellyville lost sophomore defensive back Jared Williams to a lower leg injury after a big collision with a Checotah ball carrier. After being looked at by trainers from both teams, Williams was carted off the field.
The Ponies’ offense failed to break the 10-point mark for the third time this season. Kellyville is averaging 12 points per game this season while the defense allows over 35 points per game.
With the loss, Kellyville drops to 0-6 in 2009. Checotah remains unbeaten at 6-0. The Ponies will host Roland next Friday while the Wildcats host the 6-0 Metro Christian Patriots.
