SAPULPA, Oklahoma -- The release of a chemical stored at a Sapulpa welding shop shut down traffic on state Highway 97 between Sapulpa and Sand Springs for about an hour early Tuesday morning.
The Sapulpa police and fire departments were dispatched to the shop near highway 97 and state Highway 66 just before 1:30 a.m.
They called in a shop employee to turn off a valve to the tank.
Police and fire closed the highway until that could happen.
It's not clear what caused the gas leak.
There were no evacuations and no one was injured.
