Stigler Teen Charged With Killing His Step-Father

Editor's note:  Immediately after his arrest, the Haskell County Sheriff's Office said the suspect's first name is spelled "Josua."  In the probable cause affidavit filed with the court and released Thursday, his named is spelled "Joshua."

STIGLER, Oklahoma -- A Stigler teen told investigators he had shot and killed his step-father and wounded his mother at the couple's Stigler home.

Joshua Alan Bowen, 18, was arrested shortly after the shooting on Monday, July 11, 2011.

In the probable cause affidavit filed in Haskell County court, Bowen told investigators that after killing his step-dad, 79-year-old Herbert Moore, he went outside and shot his mother "because he was scared and knew he was in trouble."

Bowen said he "thought about shooting his mother one more time but just couldn't do it."

His mother was flown by medical helicopter to a Tulsa hospital.

Vickie Moore, 52, remains in the hospital.

Bowen was charged by the Haskell County district attorney's office on Wednesday with one count each of first degree murder and shooting with intent to kill.

Bowen is scheduled for his next court appearance on July 19, 2011.
