MCALESTER, Oklahoma -- A cow apparently wandered onto an island between Rock Creek and the Crowder Point area of Lake Eufaula, then became stranded when the water rose.
Sheriff Joel Kern says his deputies took a bale of hay and feed to the cow over the weekend and will continue check on her until she is able to be rescued or walk back to shore.
The Pittsburg County sheriff's office said the cow was still on the island Monday -- apparently after walking to it when the lake's water level was low and becoming stranded when it rose.
Adrian Alexander spotted the cow on Sunday and called authorities. He says the island is an isolated area of the lake about 4 miles east of U.S. Highway 69.
He says the cow appears to be ill and there are some vultures nearby, who appear to be waiting on nature to take its course.
No word on who owns the cow.
Two NewsOn6.com viewers submitted pictures they took of the cow stranded on the island.
