HOUSTON -- Despite signing a letter of intent to play at Oklahoma, Adrian Houser will take his talents to a higher level after signing with the Houston Astros Friday.
Houston selected the Locust Grove star with its second-round selection of the MLB Draft, essentially guaranteeing his entry into their minor league system. Houser led the Pirates to the Class 4A State Championship in his senior season, going 10-1 with a .62 ERA, while striking out 125 batters in his 62 innings pitched.
The 18-year-old will now head to Kissimmee, Florida to play for the Gulf Coast League Rookie Astros for his first season. There is no timetable for his advancement through the minors.
