I was really impressed with red-shirt freshman QB Kalen Henderson today at Tulsa's 68 play, 45 minute spring scrimmage. He threw for 112 yards while completing 6-of-15 passes. He filled in forShavodrick Beaver who was limited with an injury.
Other guys that stood out to me: TreyWatts. He was lightning quick and had a team-high 39 yards on seven carries.
Sophomore receiver Freeman Kelley caught three passes for 62 yards and was able to rise up over defenders. He caught a deep ball from Henderson that was unreal. He could be the answer to who replaces Trae Johnson outside.
Junior Willie Carter had two catches for40 yards. He really came on strong at the end of last season for TU. Of course, senior WR Damaris Johnson looked as good as ever. He had two catches for 39 yards and one touchdown.
G.J. Kinne completed 7-of-17 passes for 75 yard sand one TD pass in the practice.
Here's some of what head coach Bill Blankenship aid about the team after the scrimmage:
"Spring is where somebody wins every practice, where it's offense vs. defense It's a little different in the season when it's us against the world. In spring there's always a winner and loser each day, and if it's a tie, maybe nobody won. But today, I'd have to give it to the defense. I thought they had a better day. "I think our guys are performing well. I like the way our coaches have them. I think the attitude, the culture, the camaraderie is really strong right now." The annual Spring Game is scheduled for 7 pm on Friday, April 15th.
