According to the Hartford Courant, the University of Connecticut absorbed a $1.6 million dollar financial beating in addition to the 48-20 drubbing its football team took in the Fiesta Bowl. The school said on Wednesday that it was forced to eat nearly $2.7 million dollars in tickets.  Each school was forced to take on 17,500 tickets and was financially responsible for all of those tickets no matter how many they sold. When you add lost ticket money with travel expenses and other costs of going to the Fiesta Bowl, the school spent nearly $4.3 million dollars on the trip. The Huskies allotment of Big East conference bowl money added up to about $2.7 million.  I guess the $1.6 million dollar loss bought them 4 hours of national television time. I think I would have spent it on a Super Bowl ad instead. I wonder what side of the BCS vs. football playoff argument University of Connecticut officials are on now.
