You’ll excuse the Golden Hurricane if they don’t wish to face another Dana Holgorsen-coached offense. Holgorsen coached against T-U for two seasons as offensive coordinator at Houston. Combine the numbers from his two games there with what Holgorsen’s OSU offense did to the Golden Hurricane defense Saturday and his offenses have accumulated 2,060 yards against T-U in the last 3 seasons.
T-U’s decision to key on Kendall Hunter worked. He had only 11 carries for 59 yards. But when you have to pick your poison the end result is death one way or the other. And on Saturday Brandon Weeden’s performance killed the Golden Hurricane.
OSU fans should probably thank T-U as well. Their insistence upon stopping Hunter forced Weeden to make throws and he did. This may also speed Weeden’s development in the OSU offense. Cowboy fans already knew that Hunter could produce huge numbers. Now they’re confident that Weeden can too.
And there’s even better news. Weeden will get a full 11 days to rest his sprained right thumb before the Cowboys host Texas A&M on September 30th. The Aggies had to rally from down 20-6 in the fourth quarter to a 27 to 20 win over Florida International (0-2) in College Station Saturday. A&M quarterback Jerrod Johnson, the preseason Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, threw 4 interceptions in the game.

May 26th, 2011
