WACO, Texas – Saturday evening wasn’t exactly the best way for the Sooners to wrap up the regular season.
In the bottom of the last inning of the Sooners’ final regular season game, Baylor drove home a run to beat OU 3-2 and take the series from them.
For a while, it looked as if the Sooners wouldn’t be able to put any runs on the board.
A home run from Baylor’s Dan Evatt in the second inning gave the Bears a 2-0 lead, and they held that lead through the first five innings.
OU finally recovered in the top of the sixth, as Garrett Buechele singled to drive home Cameron Seitzer and Tyler Ogle and tie the game.
The game seemed destined for extra innings after another three straight without a score, but in the bottom of the ninth, Baylor was able to get the job done with old fashioned execution.
Steve DalPorto doubled to get into scoring position, and eventually advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt.
Josh Ludy singled to the left side to easily bring DalPorto home and seal the victory.
Oklahoma only registered six hits on the night and Baylor had eight.
Trent Blank was the winning pitcher for the Bears, throwing four innings. Ryan Duke got the loss for OU, throwing 1.2 innings and giving up two hits and a run.
The Big 12 tournament will begin Wednesday, May 25 at RedHawks Field in Oklahoma City.
