TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts baseball team run-ruled Southern Utah 12-2 Friday to guarantee at least a share of the Summit League regular-season title and a No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.
The Golden Eagles started the game on fire, scoring nine total runs in the first two innings. ORU nearly batted around in the first and scored four runs, and then kept piling on in the second.
Nick Baligod connected on his second RBI in as many innings, while Brett Burch drove two runners home with a single, and Chris Elder and Brandon King delivered back-to-back sacrifice flies to give the Eagles a commanding 9-0 lead.
The game went through a rain delay of longer than an hour in the fourth inning, and the ORU bats cooled off after that. But starter Drew Bowen stayed hot.
Bowen finished with a complete game and struck out 10 batters while allowing only six hits. The only runs he allowed came in the fifth inning, when Bo Cuthbertson drove two home with a triple.
ORU now has won its last three games and will go for a series sweep in the last game of the regular season at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
