LINCOLN, Nebraska—A walk-off RBI single by Nebraska’s Brooke Thomason boosted the No. 16 Huskers over the No. 20 Oklahoma State Cowgirls 4-3.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Thomason knocked a ball to left field to plate Nikki Haget from second and win the ballgame for the Huskers who trailed until the third inning.
Alysia Hamilton got things started for the Cowgirls in the first with a double to left followed by a single by Julie Ward that scored Hamilton and put OSU up 1-0.
The Cowgirls added to the early thanks to a two-run home run by junior Chelsea Garcia, her 12th of the season, to go up 3-0.
But the Huskers would answer in the third with a huge three-run, game-tying homer from freshman Taylor Edwards.
From there the game would stay tied until the seventh.
Junior right-hander Ashley Hagemann hit a pair of batters in the top of the seventh but got out of the jam without allowing a run.
In the bottom of the frame, Haget reached first on an error and advanced to second on a sacrifice from Julie Brechtel.
The Cowgirls intentionally walked Taylor Edwards which put runners at first and second with one out. Then Thomason smashed the first pitch for the game-winning single into left field.
Hagemann earned the win, improving to 28-11 on the season while striking out seven and allowing three runs on five hits.
Kat Espinosa took the loss for Oklahoma State and is now 20-7 on the season. Espinosa allowed four runs on six hits in the complete-game effort.
The Cowgirls move to 37-16 on the season and 8-9 in the conference while Nebraska improves to 38-12 on the season and 8-9 in Big 12 play.
The two teams return to the field Sunday for a noon matchup that is both teams final Big 12 regular-season game of the season.
