STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma State baseball team recorded its second straight blowout Saturday in an 8-2 win over Kansas State.
The Cowboys jumped on the board with a huge second inning and never looked back. They batted around in the inning, with Jared Womack accounting for both the first and third outs of the frame.
But between Womack’s two outs, seven consecutive Cowboys reached base. Randy McCurry drove two runs home with a single, while Hunter Bailey and Dane Phillips added one RBI each. That gave OSU an early 4-0 lead, and that was all it needed.
The Cowboys added one run in the third inning and three more in the fifth, but starting pitcher Brad Propst made sure they didn’t matter.
Probst cruised through the Kansas State lineup, pitching a complete game while giving up just six hits. He carried a shutout into the ninth inning, but it was broken up by a two-run home run by Mike Kindel.
Probst earned his seventh win of the season, while Kansas State’s Matt Applegate came away with a loss. He gave up seven runs on nine hits in only four innings of work.
The Cowboys now have won the first two games of the series, guaranteeing their fifth win in a conference series this season. They will go for a three-game sweep at 1 p.m. Sunday.
