WACO, Texas – The Oklahoma State softball team defeated Baylor 4-2 Friday in a battle of top-20 teams.
The Bears took the lead with an RBI single by Kathy Shelton in the second, but that was the only time all day they held the lead.
The Cowgirls tied the game in the fourth inning thanks to an RBI double by Alysia Hamilton, and then took the lead later in the frame on an RBI single by Julie Ward. OSU added two more runs in the fifth on a two-run single by Chelsea Garcia, and those were all the runs the Cowgirls needed.
Baylor managed to add one more run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Dani Leal that also brought the tying run to the plate with one out. But Liz Paul grounded out to finish things off.
Kat Espinosa earned a win after pitching a complete game and holding Baylor to two runs on hits. Whitney Canion gave up four runs – two of them unearned – on seven hits in 4.2 innings.
The Cowgirls now have won three of their last four games and will complete their brief two-game series in Waco at 2 p.m. Saturday.
