STILLWATER, Okla. – Former OSU coach Gary Ward might not be familiar with the current OSU team’s style of play, but a win is a win.

Oklahoma State used a steady, methodical effort from start to finish to take down Wichita State 5-3 on Tuesday in Stillwater.

OSU racked up 12 hits, most of them playing a part in slowly but surely getting runners in scoring position and advancing them home.

The first run of the game came when Devin Shines walked to start the first inning, advanced on a single from Zach Johnson, then came home on an RBI single from Mark Ginther.

Pitcher Hunter Herrera held off the Shocker scoring for the first six innings of the game while the OSU offense did its thing.

OSU scored again in the fifth inning using the same steady tactics as the first inning.

Hunter Bailey singled to reach base, then advanced all the way around the bases one-by-one on a single and two groundouts for a 2-0 OSU lead.

The Cowboys added another run in the bottom of the sixth before Wichita State began its rally.

The Shockers racked up a pair of runs in the seventh followed by a homer from Preston Springer in the top of the eighth to tie the game up.

But the dependable OSU offense came through again, scoring Gabe Weidenaar on a double and bringing home Nico Rosthenhausler for good measure.

Four Cowboys had two hits or more in the game.

Andrew Heaney picked up the win for OSU in relief effort, pitching 1.1 innings.

Oklahoma State (28-9) will return to conference play this weekend with a road series against Texas A&M.

Friday’s first pitch is set for 6:35.
