OKLAHOMA CITY -- Fireworks flew yet again in the Bedlam Baseball series as the Oklahoma Sooners bounced back from a late-game heartbreaker top Oklahoma State 7-5 Saturday.

The Sooners’ (29-6, 7-6) offense got going early, with Caleb Bushyhead doubling to right in the second at-bat of the game, Garrett Buechele tripled to right field to bring him home for the game’s first run. In the next at-bat, Tyler Ogle reched on a fielding error to bring Buechele across the plate to take a 2-0 advantage.

Oklahoma State (26-9, 9-5) managed some offense in the home half of the first, thanks to the skills of Devin Shines. After drawing a leadoff walk, the right fielder stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice fly. Two at-bats later, Jared Womack singled to right field to bring him home and cut the deficit in half.

The Cowboys tied the game in the bottom of the third, once again with Shines’ work on the base path. He once again drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a Dane Phillips single and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Zach Johnson. In the next at-bat, Womack grounded out to bring Shines home and tie the game.

But then Oklahoma took the game over in the 4th and 5th inning.

Ogle started the run with a leadoff home run in the top of the fourth to take a one-run lead. In the next at-bat, Evan Mistich walked and advanced to second on a sacrifice fly. Casey Johnson brought him on in the next at-bat with a double to right center to make it a 4-2 game for the Sooners.

Two at-bats later, Drew Dahlberg singled to right field to score Johnson and give Oklahoma a 5-2 advantage. Ogle scored another leadoff home run in the top of the fifth to give OU a four-run advantage.

In the bottom of the sixth, Womack lead the inning off with a double, two at-bats later Gabe Weidenaar singled to center to bring Womack home to cut the deficit to three runs, advancing to second on the throw. Nico Rosthenhausler brought him home in the next at-bat with a single to left to make it a 6-4 game.

Shines drove in a two at-bats later with a single to bring Rosthenhausler home and pull within one, however the Sooners added another run in the sixth for insurance.

Burch Smith (6-2) received the win for his efforts Saturday, allowing four earned runs on five hits in his 5.2 innings pitched. Brad Propst (6-2) was credited with a loss in the outing, allowing eight hits aind six earned runs in five innings of service.

The weekend Bedlam Series will conclude at 4:05 p.m. Sunday at Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.
