NORMAN, Okla. – The Sooners put together a solid combination of offense and pitching in an 8-5 win against Texas Tech on Sunday.
Pitcher Burch Smith struck out a career-high 12 batters, giving up four hits and three runs in five innings for the Sooners. OU’s first seven outs of the game were strikeouts.
Six OU batters posted multiple hits in the game as OU won its fourth straight and fifth in the past six games.
No. 7 Oklahoma (22-6, 5-3) started steadily, posting a run in each of the first three innings.
But OU exploded for three more runs in the fourth inning on RBIs from Tyler Ogle, Caleb Bushyhead and Garrett Buechele to take a commanding 6-0 lead.
Tech fired off four runs in the top of the sixth, including a two-run homer from Barrett Barnes.
The Red Raiders added another score in the seventh to pull to within 6-5, but Bushyhead and Buechele each picked up another RBI in the bottom of the eighth to seal it.
They both had three hits each in the game and combined for five of the Sooners’ eight RBIs.
Tyler Ogle had two of them and Drew Dahlberg added one.
Oklahoma also racked up 16 hits on the day to just seven from Texas Tech.
The Sooners will host Oklahoma State on Tuesday for a Bedlam matchup that won’t count toward conference standings. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
