STILLWATER, Okla. – OSU showed plenty of patience on Wednesday, and that patience paid off.
The Cowboys blasted a two-run home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to pull off a 4-2 victory against Washington in Stillwater.
After four straight innings without a score from either team, the Cowboys came out with a bang in the 11th.
Dane Philips took the first pitch of the inning and reached first on a single to center field.
Zach Johnson one-upped his teammate, however, taking the second pitch of the inning and sending it over the left field wall for the walk-off homer, his second home run of the day.
OSU got on the board first in the third inning as Phillips tripled to bring Devin Shines home for a 1-0 lead.
Washington racked up two runs on a single in the fifth inning to take a lead, but the Cowboys responded in the sixth as Johnson notched his first of two homers in the game, a solo to left field.
Randy McCurry got the win for OSU, giving up one hit in one inning. Andrew Heck pitched five innings for Oklahoma State, giving up Washington’s only two runs, and Gabe Weidenaar pitched 4.1.
The Cowboys have a huge series coming up this weekend, as they host the Texas Longhorns in Stillwater.
The first game is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
