FULLERTON, California -- The Oklahoma Sooners split their two games Friday, first falling to Penn State, but rebounding to beat Pacific.
OU run-ruled Pacific 13-2 after both Dani Dobbs and Jessica Shults hit grand slams. Oklahoma notched one run in the first and third innings, but tacked on six in the fourth inning. The Sooners’ five additional runs in the fifth inning sealed the Tigers’ fate. Pacific did manage to put up two runs in the top of the fifth inning, but it was too late.
The Sooners’ Michelle Gascoigne threw a complete game, allowing two earned runs while striking out five batters.
Despite ending the day on a big win, the Sooners dropped their first contest against Penn State, 5-2. OU’s Allee Allen gave up a lead-off homer to Nittany Lions. Penn State pegged on an additional run in the same inning, taking a 3-0 lead.
Gascoigne, who would go on to throw a complete game for the Sooners in their next game, pitched 4.2 innings, allowing the Nittany Lions’ two additional runs.
Oklahoma’s two runs came in the bottom of the seventh inning, when Keilani Ricketts hit a single to right field, hitting home both Brittany Williams and Dobbs.
Oklahoma returns to play Saturday at 11 a.m. against No. 4 Washington.
