FULLERTON, Calif. – The season is still young, but OU knocked off No. 7 Arizona for the second time already this year.
The ninth-ranked Sooners got a solid game from pitcher Michelle Gascoigne to beat the Wildcats 5-3 on Thursday afternoon.
She allowed three runs on three hits, and Keilani Ricketts came in to pitch the final inning and get the save.
OU didn’t wait long to get on the scoreboard when Brittany Williams doubled to bring Haley Nix and Jessica Shults home for a 2-0 lead.
Dani Dobbs advanced home on a walk in the fourth, but the Sooners left three runners stranded to finish the inning.
In the seventh, Javen Henson walked and Dobbs blasted her second home run of the day to give OU a 5-2 lead and solidify the game before allowing one more to Arizona.
In the first game of the day, OU defeated DePaul 4-3 in eight innings.
Keilani Ricketts struck out a career high 17 batters in the game.
The Sooners (24-6) continue play at the Judi Garman Classic on Friday with a pair of games against Penn State and Pacific starting at 11 a.m.
