ORU Improves to 2-0 in Three-Game Series
The Golden Eagles continue to work on a three-game sweep of the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars, beating them 6-1 Sunday.

TULSA, Oklahoma -- The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles notched their second win of a three-game series against Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville, rolling past the Cougars 6-3.
The Cougars’ lone run came in the third inning, when Mitch Matecki flied out to center field for the team’s second out, while teammate Travis Becherer crossed the plate to take a 1-0 lead.
ORU got on the board in the fourth inning, posting one run, and took the lead in the fifth, when Cam Schiller drove home one run with a double and Spencer Barnett hit home two more Golden Eagle base runners to take a 4-0 lead.
Chris Elder hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning to bring the score to 6-1. The Cougars tried to respond in the top of the ninth, putting up two runs after an ORU fielding error, but they couldn’t catch up with the Golden Eagles.
ORU’s Alex Gonzalez (1-0) finished with the win after pitching eight innings, allowing only three hits and one run while striking out five batters.
SIU-Edwardsville’s Spencer Patton (0-1) suffered the loss after throwing four innings, giving up three hits and two runs.
The two teams will again meet Sunday at 1 p.m.
